As you can see from the maps above, India hasn't changed that much since ancient times, it has kept a very similar land area, shifting to the south east.

In India, people grew wheat, rice, cotton and salt.
Because India is located in between China, and Western Asia and Europe, it generated money through trading things from the east to the west, and vice versa.

Cultural Traditions
Girls wore Saris and men wore Dhotis, which are now though of as traditional Indian robes.
Buddhism brought different patterns and tesselations used in art and architecture.
The written language, Sanskrit, develops.
The Indian version of Hollywood, known as Bollywood, produces many movies each year, often featuring music and lots of Indian culture. In India arranged marriages are still common. The caste system, which seperates the populatiby social status, is still evident. Pupular pastimes include cricket, field hockey, soccer, and dance.

Hinduism developed in India thousands of years ago. It went on to become the major religion of India today. Islam arrived in India around the 12th century.

1556-1605 - Akbar's rule which lead the Mughal Empire into a golden age. During this time Akbar created

1631 - Erection of the Taj Mahal started

1707 - After the death of Aurangzeb the empire declined until the 1800s

1757 - The Battle of Plassey marks the beginning of British control over India Indian fighters were defeated

1857 - Indian forces tried to overthrow the British but this only lead to reforms

1885 - The Indian National Congress formed creating aggressive opinions intimidating the British

1896-1900 - A series of famines occurred killing 7 million people

1919 - The Rowlatt Act was passed giving the British the right to try people in a court unfairly without juries or trials, this is when Mohandas Gandhi started to speak out and protest

1950 - India made their first constitution on January 26th
2011 - Poverty, Overpopulation, and Religious issues are still occuring in India today while it's economy is flourishing

India is unique!
  • Its use of beautiful saris and dhotis' for clothing
  • India is the country where Hinduism was founded
  • Early languages such as Sanskrit were used in ancient times.
  • Its past empires continued well into modern times including most of the land and even more
  • India has a unique caste stystem organizing society.
  • India has the second largest population out of every country in the world.
  • India is only slightely larger than one third of the United Sates, but it has almost four times as many people!


Conclusion:
India has retained diverse traditions throughout history. Customs such as the wearing of a sari or dhoti during religious ceremonies, as well as Indian architectaul styles have remained present into modern times. The major religion, Hinduism, developed in India thousands of years ago and has taken over 80.5 percent of the present population. Politics have been a big part of India’s history, many dynasties have ruled over time, and it only gained independence from England in the last century. Indians still celebrate their freedom and uniqueness from other cultures and societies.
