President Nixon came into office inheriting a mess in Vietnam, and he needed to fix it. Nixon solved the problem by having massive troop withdrawals, pulling troops out of Vietnam in unprecedented numbers, mostly in reaction to protests, such as the one at Kent State. Students in the university were protesting the war, when national guard members came in and fired on the crowd, killing 4 and wounding 9.
"It is not illegal when the President does it" President Richard Nixon says during his interviews with David Frost that by definition, the President of the United States is above the law. The interviews were in relation to the Watergate Scandal which defined the Nixon Presidency. President Nixon authorized members of his party to break into the Democratic Party headquarters and steal documents, and then covered it up by paying cash to all the parties involved. He was facing impeachment when he resigned from the office.
